Baltimore starter Dean Kremer held the visiting Miami Marlins to three singles across seven shutout innings as the Orioles won 5-2 in Friday night’s series opener.
Kremer (8-7) walked one and struck out seven in a 99-pitch outing. He matched last year’s win total.
Yennier Cano worked a scoreless eighth, though Baltimore was denied a third shutout in less than a month in the ninth.
Jordan Westburg and Ramon Laureano both rapped three hits, and Ryan O’Hearn had two hits. The trio accounted for all of Baltimore’s runs batted in.
The Orioles have won six of their last seven games, and they’re 3-1 on the homestand.
The Marlins have their first three-game losing streak in more than a month after losing the previous two days in Cincinnati.
Marlins starter Edward Cabrera (3-4) gave up four runs on eight hits in four innings. He struck out six without a walk.
Otto Lopez hit a two-run homer in the ninth off Andrew Kittredge. Lopez, Connor Norby, and ex-Oriole Kyle Stowers had Miami’s hits off Kremer.
Jackson Holliday led off the Baltimore first with a double and scored on Westburg’s single. O’Hearn’s double brought in the next run.
O’Hearn singled in the next run in the third inning before Laureano knocked in Gunnar Henderson.
Tyler Phillips worked two scoreless innings out of Miami’s bullpen.
Then Laureano’s two-out single in the seventh made it 5-0.
